The Truth about ‘Sexting’
March 13, 2012 2 CommentsThe sexing phenomenon has found its way into the news recently.
Most of the stories focus on a poor teenage girl with a smart phone who sent a regrettable picture to some punk who in turn, forwarded the photo to the whole high school, or the whole world via the Internet.
The result: extreme embarrassment and regret.
We’re not gonna talk about that.
The other sexting news usually involves celebrities, and the stories come in two varieties:
1. The Farve: a skeezy male celebrity/athlete who sent a few dick shots to a girl he probably could have slept with even if he hadn’t pressed send.
We’re not gonna talk about that either.
2. The Rhianna: A female celebrity whose cell phone was hacked (while that isn’t sexting itself, one would assume those Rhianna, Scarlett, and Blake pictures were originally sext messages prior to being hacked).
Chances are, there aren’t paparazzi after your phone…so, there’s really no need to discuss this any further.
What this article is about, and what isn’t really covered in the news, is the reality of sexting for normal consenting adults.
Flirty texts and pictures can be a great way to spice up a relationship or to keep it spicy. Theres nothing wrong with that perse’ but…
There are some fundamental truths about sexting that you must understand.
1. If you’re a single female, and you’re sending sext messages to random guys, or guys you casually date, you will not be taken seriously and you will not be respected. Period. That’s just a fact. Your self pictorials may earn you some attention from these guys, but you will be viewed only as a sexual object. Also, he absolutely will share these photos with his friends as a trophy of his conquests.
2. If you’re in a committed relationship you may think there really isn’t a lot of danger in sexting. And well you’re kinda wrong. There are two types of boyfriends in the world. “Boyfriend Type A” will keep your intimate exchanges intimate. However, “Boyfriend Type B” will happily share the “private” photos you sent him on his birthday with his buddies. Note that once you break up with “Boyfriend type A”, he automatically turns into a “Type B” with respect to your privacy.
While potentially very intimate and stimulating, sexting is a risk. By all means, have fun, but understand what you are getting yourself into…
