Date the man…not the cell phone.

October 18, 2011 6 Comments

The age of media is upon us. All of us are way too connected…texting, BBM, Facebook, Twitter, all right at our fingertips. We are all guilty; we spend way too much time on some, if not all of the above.

But like anything else ladies, there is a time and place… No texting / facebooking / bbming / tweeting on a date please—especially on the first date. Quality men usually expect full attention on a date, as they should. You, in turn, should expect the same.

When you take a phone call, or go on a texting spree while on a date, it says “I’m not that interested” and even if you are interested, it says “I’m a distracted human being”. Not exactly the vibe you want to give off.

Texting, or worse, taking a phone call, on a date makes a gentleman feel terribly awkward. He will look for ways to kill time while you are “doing what you are doing”. That, or he will just stare at you in disbelief. I’d liken it to the awkward, disappointed, maybe even enraged feeling you would get if right in the middle of sex a guy stopped and said, “Hey, hang on one quick second, I’m gonna go check the score to the game, I’ll be right back”

DIS-BELIEF…

Don’t disturb the flow of the date! Your Facebook news feed is not that important! That is unless you absolutely NEED to know that the kid who lived down the hall from you in college, who you haven’t spoken to in six years, is “going to the beach tomorrow, bitches”.

And don’t fret, you can still tell your girls what happened later that night, or the next morning, depending on how the date goes…

Bottom line… A cellular dependence is not an attractive personality trait. For your sake, and for his sake, please keep your phone in your pocket or in your bag, on SILENT. You can check it when you go to the ladies room if you absolutely have to. Otherwise, put your phone on vibrate; it’s a feature that you’ll probably need on those lonely nights when no one is texting you back.
