Don’t meet guys at bars.

Life is a series of decisions…

And some decisions are bigger than others.

Serious choices require a clear mind, and lucid thought. When these moments arise, it’s in your best interest to do your homework and to educate yourself on the options in front of you.

For example…

When you buy a car, you’d be wise to read books and magazines on the top-rated vehicles. You might seek opinions and advice from friends or family who are knowledgeable about automobiles so that you may arrive at an informed opinion yourself. After all, you’re going to be committing a lot of money, and up to 10 years or more to the vehicle you decide on. You want to make sure its perfect.

Makes sense right?

Of course.

So you’ll also agree that when you buy a home, it’s in your best interest to seek the advice of real estate professionals. Buying a home is a huge deal. Realtors can help you find homes that match your needs. Financial Advisors can assist you in finding the best mortgage rates. You’ll probably also solicit the opinions of people you trust. AFTER ALL, you’re going to be committing a ton of money and up to 30 years or more to the home you decide on. You want to make sure it’s right.

This is fairly straight forward so far. We can all agree that big decisions are worth looking into, preparing for, and approaching with a clear mind.

Great.

So why would you ever get drunk, and venture into poorly lit bars when choosing a potential mate?

I don’t have to remind you that choosing a partner is a big decision with serious effects on your life. I mean, when you commit to having a serious relationship with someone, you’re investing your love, life, trust, etc…, and ideally, a lifetime’s worth of sharing EVERYTHING, even having children and raising a family together.

Serious sh*t!

And yet, you go to a bar to meet this person? You dull your senses with alcohol to meet this person?

Would you get wasted before purchasing a car? No way. Chances are you’d wake up the next morning and regret the very expensive, very poor, choice in your driveway.

Would you select a place to live, based on how it looked at night? I mean, who in their right mind would make a financial/life decision like that in the dark? You’d want to see what you’re buying. You’d want to see it all.

And yet weekend after weekend, night after night, you flock to bars and clubs and other social hot-spots in the hopes of connecting with Mr. Right. You do this in the dark. You do this with a drink in hand. No wonder you’ve had so much buyers remorse.

Change these habits girl!

Use bars for what they are, a place to unwind with friends and sip overpriced underpowered drinks. If you just want a hook-up, by all means, make it a double. But if you’re serious about seeking a companion, do not do it at a bar. Do it anywhere else. Anywhere the lights are on, and anytime your head is clear.

I am a wife and this September will mark our 30th anniversary. I don’t know how I managed to find the wonderful guy I married, but if I had advice like this back then, the process would have been a lot less painful. I see young women today wasting their time and it makes me sad for them. These guys are doing the young women of today a great service. I hope these young ladies are listening!
